Baby Cold and Flu Remedies

written by Alice Bolte

Baby Cold Remedies: Effective, natural treatments for infants, toddlers and children who have a runny nose, sore thought or cough. This includes essential oils, food, cough medicine like honey that help baby sleep at night and tips for mom and dad to know when to visit the doctor. Hope these tips and ideas help boost your little one’s immune system and get them back in tip top health! When babies feel bad and are sick, it’s just the worst! #SLLWhen your baby has the cold or flu, it seems the whole world has turned upside down.

We moms, start all the Googling…

What are flu symptoms in infants? How high of a fever is bad?! Can I use Vicks on a baby? What’s the best relief for baby’s cough, runny nose or fever? How do I help my baby sleep better with a cold?
The frantic typing continues…

After searching all the cold and flu symptoms for infants, the pediatrician’s appointment couldn’t come soon enough. Not to mention that your little one can only tell you what hurts by wailing at the top of their lungs.

Wouldn’t it be just peachy if they could say, “By the way Mother, I am coming down with some sort of flu because I have chills and my throat hurts. Could you please give me a dose of Children’s Tylenol so I can sleep better?”

This cold season, we are on our seventh sickness. After an ER visit, many fevers and two doctor visits, I finally asked the pediatrician, “What am I doing wrong?”

She shrugged and responded, “Babies get sick. They can have anywhere from 12 to 20 colds in a year.”

Wonderful.

1. DIAPER BAG

HaloVa Diaper Bag
I LOVE this bag!!! Lately I have been leaning more towards the backpack diaper bag. I love how I can swing it over my shoulders and forget about it. With the purse, it kind of felt like I had to lug another thing around (besides a baby! haha). It’s also nice that it’s not so girly when my husband uses it. We have received  a lot of compliments on it!

Check out the pics at the bottom of the page that show more details about the pockets in this bag.

2. WET BAG

Planet Wise Wet Diaper Tote Bag, Medium
Planet Wise is the best! These little wet diaper totes are the bomb and they come in such cute colors! I have two and wash our cloth diapers every other day. I wish I had three because I use these every day and have to use a plastic grocery bag when these are drying. They keep in smell perfectly, and fit a great amount of diapers (we’ve used them on trips and they hold an entire day’s worth of pocket diapers with all the inserts).

5 Shocking Truths: What Postpartum Recovery Is Really Like

written by Alice Bolte

Postpartum recovery & healing after birth (absolutely shocking) realities that no one tells you about. Must read, especially for first time moms! Prepare for depression, weightless, care, create the ultimate kit to properly heal and get tips on the timeline, natural healing, stitches, how much bleeding to expect, products and more. Don’t let this time after pregnancy SHOCK YOU! #postpartum #postpartumrecovery #baby #pregnancy #newmom #SLLOne of the biggest fears in my life was the whole labor and delivery thing. I wanted kids SO badly, but this fear was big enough, I wasn’t sure that dream would be possible. The movies seem to equate birthing to a heart thudding horror flick. Pregnant with our first (eeek!), I wasted no time enrolling in prenatal education classes. Afterwards, I felt semi-prepared (even relieved) but I never EVER realized that postpartum recovery was what I really needed to worry about.

We learned all the details of labor in our prenatal classes (all the options) and watched videos that were a little cringe-worthy but hey, it’s childbirth. Knowing what to expect put us at ease.

However, I was TOTALLY unprepared for postpartum healing and pain. Everything about the realities of life after birth seemed to come as a complete shock to me.

Cloth Diapers 101: Everything You Need, For Beginners

written by Alice Bolte

Cloth Diapering 101: For Beginners. Everything you need to know! The best cloth diapers, washing, where to buy them, how to use them, types of cloth diapers and more!! #SLLCloth diapers today are no longer your grandma’s giant white sheet with a clothes pin. Heck no. I think any momma these days would shudder at the thought. Today, the best cloth diapers have a cute pattern, washing is a breeze and the brands are simply amazing.

In the not so distant past, I swore off cloth diapering before I even knew a thing about it. Then, we became pregnant and suddenly I transformed into some kind of penny-pinching fiend. We had big financial goals and spending a bajillion dollars on disposable diapers seemed silly.

I was told:
“I’ll give you two weeks and you’ll quit.”
“My sister tried that too…”
“You’re not doing that when I’m there!”

Yeesh. You’d think cloth diapering was some kind of crazy, questionably legal activity. But all these people had preconceived notions that cloth diapering was like it had been twenty years ago. I had done my research and it was just so simple. In fact, a few of those naysayers started cloth diapering too!

10 Unbelievable Postpartum Recovery Tips For Healing After A Vaginal Birth

written by Alice Bolte

Postpartum recovery and healing after birth from a vaginal delivery can be tough. I needed all the tips and advice! After experiencing labor and delivery PLUS postpartum recovery for the first time, I feel like women must be the toughest things on this planet..or maybe their vaginas. However, even if after labor, we realize Wonderwoman must be kin, we still need to slow down and properly heal. This can be challenging to some (ahem -> me too).

You have probably nested in epic proportions; the house has never been so organized (for some reason the baby needs those pots and pans stacked precisely by size), the floors have never been so clean and the nursery couldn’t be more perfect.

Nailing shelves in at 12 am, organizing that closet that hasn’t been opened in years, and scrubbing floors till they compare to hospital grade sterilization may be how you prepared for baby but what about you?

How have you prepared for your body to heal after birth? Because, let’s be real: if you gave birth (or will be giving birth) vaginally, your entire lady area is going to need some serious TLC to properly recover postpartum.
