The Ultimate Newborn Sleep Schedule, Must-Know Week By Week Tips

written by Alice Bolte

Now with baby #2 on the way, people are asking, “Aren’t you SO excited?!”

I smile, nod and reply, “Yes but now that we’ve been through the whole newborn-nonexistent-sleep-schedule-experience and survived, it feels a little like preparing for the apocalypse.”

Taking a newborn home while healing from labor and delivery, exhausted and overwhelmed was seriously one of the toughest things I’ve ever had to deal with. What saved our livelihood and sanity was reading Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Dr. Weissbluth. I studied the crap out of that book.

I highly recommend picking it up and if you’re like many other mommas out there and ‘ain’t got time for that’, I’ve summarized exactly what you need to know to survive the entire newborn stage and beyond.

15 Things You Should Never Say To A Pregnant Woman

written by Alice Bolte

Pregnancy is crazy. One minute you’re a normal human being and then before you know it, food tastes alien, smells are 10 times more powerful, even bending down sounds exhausting and for all that is good in the world, you just keep forgetting absolutely vital things at the grocery store.

“*#!% ($*@, I forgot toilet paper again!” <- Literal verbiage used this week (18 weeks and 5 days into the pregnancy).

For first time moms, pregnancy can feel like waking up, suddenly a different person. In addition, the absence of caffeine, alcohol, some of your favorite foods plus all the nausea and lack of sleep pretty much guarantees some form of crazy.

Pregnancy is no bag of lucky charms at the end of the rainbow. Especially for first time moms. Through ALL stages of pregnancy, people seem to just vomit their “tips” and “advice”. Drumroll for the eye roll and maybe they’re so bad, you just have to find the humor. Funny or not, some of these remarks are SO bad, they're hilarious. Or maybe that's just the hormones talking... #SLL #pregnancy #firstpregnancy #pregnancyhumor #hormones

10 Baby Sleep Secrets You Must Know, The ULTIMATE Overnight Sleep Guide

written by Alice Bolte

A baby can sleep through the night solidly by at least eight weeks of age. With the right schedule in place, our little one did as well. By twelve weeks, she would sleep through the night on a consistent basis and now (at almost two years old) has slept overnight every single night since, except for the occasional sickness. You may think that this pattern MUST be innate; a baby just has to be born that way, right? You may be thinking: my baby would never be able to do that! Think again.

Our little one didn’t sleep through the night at eight weeks old because we were just “lucky”.

That little snuggle bug sleeps through the night because of the sound and solid techniques I am about to share with you. These sleep training tips SAVED my sanity.

I feel like EVERY SINGLE MOM in the whole known universe needs to know these secrets!

What I Wish SOMEONE Had Told Me About The Postpartum Hospital Stay

written by Alice Bolte

Postpartum recovery and healing after birth, after labor and delivery, by far was one of the CRAZIEST life experiences I’ve ever had. Did ANYONE let me know that postpartum anxiety is REAL, DIY padsicles must be some kind of hazing joke for first time moms, bleeding would compare to some sort of horror movie and all those postpartum kit necessities are not just essentials, they are SERIOUS must haves?!

Nope.

We learn all the pregnancy things known to mankind, comparing baby size week by week, taking fantastic prenatal courses, and preparing our entire home for baby as if we’ve transformed into some sort of maniacal, OCD crazed pregnant lady.

This is normal, apparently. We expect this…mostly.

Yet NO ONE seemed able or willing to dish the deets on the whole postpartum hospital stay craziness. I was shocked.

So, here goes. Grab your decaf coffee and lean in close, girlfriend, because it’s time to get real.

What I WISH I’d Known BEFORE Going Into Labor!

written by Alice Bolte

The childbirth horror stories were endless. Why is it that pregnant women (especially first time moms) can’t seem to get away from every stranger, friend and relative vomiting the very worst labor and delivery stories they’ve ever heard? When someone found out I was pregnant, I barely had to wait a few seconds before the ever-so-predictable pain riddled story began. I listened patiently to some friend of a friend’s coworker’s neighbor having the WORST delivery ever, followed up with tips (even if they’d never had a baby).

So, are all the horror stories true?

Is childbirth the worst pain you’ll ever experience?
